How Much Do Movers Cost in Dubai

How Much Do Movers Cost in Dubai? Honest 2026 Guide

If you’ve searched “movers cost in Dubai” and landed on five different websites with five vague answers like “it depends” or “contact us for a quote,” you’re not alone — and you’re not any closer to a number you can actually budget around. This guide breaks down real movers cost in Dubai so you know exactly what to expect.

At MoveInZone, we’ve quoted thousands of moves across Dubai and the UAE over the past 9 years. Here, we break down exactly what you’ll pay, what makes the price go up or down, and the mistakes that lead to unpleasant surprises on moving day — including a real quotation we sent a customer, and what went wrong even after we were completely upfront about the cost.

Average Moving Costs in Dubai by Home Size

Here’s what local moves typically cost, based on our actual pricing:

Home SizePrice Range (AED)
Studio699 – 900
1 Bedroom Apartment899 – 1,199
2 Bedroom Apartment1,499 – 1,799
3 Bedroom Apartment1,799 – 1,999
Villa1,899 – 2,399

These ranges assume a standard local move within Dubai — house to house, not to storage (more on why that matters below).

What Determines Movers Cost in Dubai

Two customers moving the same size home can get different quotes, and it’s not random. The main factors are:

  • Furniture volume and type — more pieces, bulkier items, and glass or fragile pieces all affect handling time and packing needs
  • Number of boxes required — for personal items like clothes, kitchenware, and general belongings
  • Trucks and crew size needed — this scales directly with the above two factors

To give you a sense of what a standard job actually includes:

  • Studio: 1 truck, 3 workers, 10 boxes, furniture dismantling included
  • 1 Bedroom: 1 truck, 4 workers, 20 boxes
  • 2 Bedroom: 2 trucks, 6–7 workers, 30–35 boxes

This is the level of detail a mover should be able to give you upfront — if they can’t, that’s usually a sign the quote is a guess, not an estimate.

What Actually Pushes the Price Higher (No Hidden Fees, Just Real Costs)

We don’t believe in vague “additional charges may apply” fine print. Here’s exactly what can add to your bill, and why:

Stair access. Dubai buildings generally have service lifts, but if a piece of furniture is too large for the lift and has to go down the stairs, that takes more time and more manpower — and the price reflects that.

Extra boxes. Every quote includes a set number of boxes based on your home size (see the breakdown above). If you end up needing more — say 20 instead of the 10 included for a studio — each additional box is AED 15.

Extra trucks. A 1-bedroom move is normally handled with one 3-ton truck. If your furniture and belongings don’t fit, you’ll need a second truck. This typically costs an additional AED 299–499.

None of this is a hidden fee — it’s a variable cost that depends on how much you actually own versus what was estimated. Which brings us to a real story.

A Real Case: Why Transparent Pricing Still Led to a Bad Review

One of our customers was moving a 2-bedroom villa from Villanova to Meydan South. She sent us photos, and based on those photos, we quoted:

AED 1,500 — including 2 closed moving trucks, 6 professional movers, furniture dismantling & reassembly, packing & unpacking, loading & unloading, 30 moving boxes, and reinstallation at the new location. Extra boxes: AED 15 each. Extra truck (if needed): AED 500.

Everything was disclosed upfront, in writing, before she booked. But on moving day, her actual box count came in higher than what the photos suggested. When we explained the extra charge — which had been clearly stated in the original quote — she felt blindsided, got upset, and left a negative review.

We share this not to complain about the customer, but because it’s a genuinely common situation, and it points to something every mover and every customer should understand about how quotes work in the first place.

Why Your Quote Might Be Off — And How to Fix It

After 9 years of quoting moves, here’s what we’ve learned actually causes the gap between the initial quote and the final price:

1. Movers can only quote what you show them. If you send photos of your living room and bedroom but forget the kitchen — fridge, washing machine, stove — the mover will assume you don’t have those items, because there’s no way to know otherwise. We quote based on what’s in the pictures, not what might exist off-camera.

2. Box counts are always estimates. You can send a photo of your wardrobe, but no mover can tell how many boxes it will take to pack what’s inside it. This is the single biggest source of “extra box” charges — not because movers are padding the bill, but because it’s genuinely unknowable from a photo.

3. For bigger homes, get a free survey instead of a photo quote. If you’re moving a 2-bedroom-plus-maid’s-room, a study, an office, or a 3–4 bedroom home, ask your mover for a free in-person survey instead of quoting from pictures. We come to your home, assess everything in person, and give you one final number — no questions later about extra boxes, trucks, or anything else. We don’t currently offer surveys for studios and 1-bedroom homes, since these are fairly standardized and the only real variable is boxes; but for anything larger, a survey removes almost all guesswork. We can also do video call surveys, though in Dubai we usually come in person.

Local Move vs. Storage: A Cost Difference Most Customers Don’t Expect

Here’s a mix-up we see constantly. A customer asks for a local moving price — say AED 1,000 for a 1-bedroom — assuming it’s a standard house-to-house move. Then, on moving day, it turns out they’re actually moving to a storage unit.

Storage packing costs more than local packing, because furniture and belongings need to be wrapped and protected differently to withstand a storage period, rather than a direct transfer between homes. That extra material and labor is a real added cost — it’s not us charging more for no reason. When customers push back and ask for the local moving price instead, unfortunately we can’t reassemble or set up items at a storage unit the way we would in a new home, so the service itself is genuinely different.

The fix: when you request a quote, tell your mover exactly where the items are going — home to home, or home to storage — from the start.

The “Same Community” Discount Myth

Another common request: “We’re moving to the next building, can we get 50% off?”

It’s an understandable ask, but here’s the reality — moving distance barely affects the price. If you’re moving a 1-bedroom apartment, you still need the same truck, the same 4 workers, and the same 20 boxes whether you’re going next door or across the city. The only thing that genuinely changes with a shorter distance is fuel cost, which typically saves somewhere in the AED 50–80 range — not 50% of the total.

How to Actually Save Money on Your Move

A few things that are within your control:

  • Don’t pack fragile items like cutlery/crockery yourself. It’s one of the most common ways items get damaged in transit. Let the professional team handle it — pack your clothes, kids’ toys, and non-fragile items yourself if you want to cut costs, but leave crockery to the movers.
  • Book on weekdays. Weekdays generally have more availability and lighter workloads, which means more room to negotiate and often better discounts. Weekends are consistently busy and rarely accept last-minute bookings.
  • Be upfront about everything you own, including kitchen appliances, when requesting a quote — this alone prevents most “surprise” charges.

One More Thing: Move-Out Painting

If you’re a tenant moving out in Dubai, there’s a cost most people forget to budget for — your landlord will likely deduct money from your deposit for maintenance and painting, and that deduction is often higher than what it would actually cost to have it done yourself.

Most moving companies don’t offer painting at all. We do — with our own hired painters — so you can handle your move and your move-out painting in one booking, at a more economical rate than what most landlords will charge you for the same work. It’s a simple way to protect more of your deposit instead of losing it to inflated maintenance fees.
